Dear Future Self

 

So, today I and my best friend were out on our usual car drive sessions. Having a random discussion on whatnot, he all of a sudden asked me, “What do you think, where will we be after 6 years from now? Will we be married? Will we be happy? Where do you think we’ll land up?”. I pondered for a while before answering his question, because for the first time I didn’t know how and what to answer! This post is thus a well-contemplated response to his rather swift question and a dedication to my future self. I hope, and pray, and wish that we’ll be the way I’m visualizing us to be! On that ground, here it goes . . .

Dear Future Self,

Hope you’re healthy, wealthy and wise! Most importantly, I’m hoping that you’re alive! Presently, life is embracing its own roller coaster ride – there are too many falls than hikes. I hope none of this is happening to you NOW!

I hope you’ve emerged into a polished, confident person who’s working to her heart’s content, I hope you’re enjoying life. There were reveries that you’ve been visioning since you were a kid : some silly, some crazy and yet others that were honest and reflective. Have you traded any of those dreams to reality? I hope you have! Oh and have you dared to finally plan a road trip with your friends to discover new places and corners? Did you encounter anyone who’s inspired you? I surely know there must’ve been many who’ve challenged you. With your sarcasm undefiled, I hope you’re on the right track of your journey!

So, did you find an ideal job for yourself? Are you happy with it? Does it stir the creativity within you, pushing you to delve deeper to discover new panoramas? I wish even now, when you’ll be reading this, accolades in the form of appreciation would be worthier than a trophy. I hope you’re exhausting your earnings sensibly, remember the goal? Earn to gift a smile on everyone’s face every now and then; Earn to invest on the right people and abode; Earn to keep everyone elated, to make a difference, to save not greedily but wisely, to spend not to flaunt but as a token of gratitude!

Six  l-o-o-o-n-g years (Year 2022!!), are you still hopelessly single? I hope you’ve met your Mr. Right, if not, I hope you haven’t confronted any frogs too! I truly wish you aren’t married, you still stick to the notion that you’ll marry when YOU feel its right for you, not because your 20’s is retiring and your old tormenting relatives are nagging you to do so – its your life, you are the one who’ll be spending every bit of it with the people you choose to be with, others just crave for a week long party and a month of gossip to pass their time – why strain yourself over these petty issues? You’ll be trending for all the right reasons when your time comes. Forget this, hope you’ve become a successful blogger with bountiful of audience praising and showering their divine blessings on you.

What about friends? Met new one’s? Has the shy and reserved phase faded away? Old is gold, I hope you summon up on that and haven’t lost contact with your continuous, unfading comrades who’ve always been the one’s to stick up to you through thick and thin! I wish all of you still take out time and plan night-outs with each other, those crazy nighters you regularly craved for! I hope they are still your comfort zone and go-to people whenever you have a doubt or at times when you feel a bit low and glum.

Have you managed to be a great daughter and an awesome sister to your parents and brother? Do you amaze them with some random family outing plans and dinners? I really hope you do. I expect you to balance your life by retaining that optimistic approach (the only knack you possess) that even after a bad day nothing can bring you down or lower your esteem. Have faith that every act is a blessing in disguise.

Wishing you success in every way; success in fame, success in clasping a grip on your emotions and success in life, I pray that you’re gracious and busy (strangely, you always wished for it!), but never too busy to remain unavailable for your loved one’s or to take out time from your busy schedule to explore new places and score fresh memories. The only thing I’m pretty sure of is that you’ll always find time to ‘do nothing’ and enjoy that – those lazy off-days when you’ll be lying on bed in your pyjamas, throwing your phone in the other direction, and sleeping or watching movies all day long. I wish no matter how strong you’ll become, you’ll always melt on seeing a cute little pup or an elderly person stretching out his hand to offer you his blessings – you’ll always respect others irrespective of the age factor!

Assuming that you would have lived half of your dreams, and are on the way to achieve more, I wish you a happy and peaceful life. Hoping that after six years these predictions will come true and you’ll be writing another post to your future self. Praying that time fades happily and satisfactorily.
